The diabolical attacks just keep coming. Over the weekend, I came across the most appalling article. I hate to describe it in detail lest I lend credence to the slanders it sets forth, but given the circulation of the rag in which it appears, we may well encounter people who've fallen for Old Scratch's lie and need to refute it.
Basically, this disgrace to journalism claims that a document has been found in the Vatican archives from the pope who moved the Curia to Avignon and initiated the "Babylonian Captivity" of the papacy, confessing that he achieved the move by selling his soul to the Devil, who in return gave him a vision of the future, of a bad pope at the beginning of "century 21."
So if someone comes up to you asking about a "prophecy of Clement V," be sure to point out that there's a reason Satan is called "The Father of Lies." How better to create confusion and dissention than to put forth a false prophecy slandering a good and holy man?
