P.S.: Louise, I have a recording of Papa's about the Vatican staff; and it is really quite the contrary! The staff is comparatively small in comparison to corporations [which ofcourse it certainly is NOT], etc. But the Vatican is extremely efficient and dedicated which makes all the difference!

On another note, I have been listening to the "Ratzinger Report"...and from the introduction, I learned a few things.
Before his 1991 physical fall, Joseph Ratzinger indeed did drive. He was frequently seen by the citizens of Rome behind the wheel of his "small" automobile. [I know he does not drive now; and does not have a driver's licence. He has been chaufered around for a very long time now....]
Another fact: "The Ratzinger Report" was originally written and published entirely in Italian.
And therein we find his own explanation of his character...which CANNOT be descibed under the POLITICAL term "Conservative" and why-so. He goes into great degrees concerning Catholic "Triumphantalism", and why one cannot label that also as Optimistic, nor as Pesimistic.
I highly recommend the reading or listening to this classic of 20 years prior. It is a true treasure....
