Am I imagining it or have some folks dropped out a bit from our forum since the restrictions on posting pics here???? Hey! Are you posting and chatting on the Italian forum now? I understand that urge and visit there myself, but don't forget your first home, please guys! Even if Papa is stunningto look at, there are still stimulating other threads and debating possibilities here... Sob, sadness, miss you....

I too am still a member of this forum as well as a new member of the Italian forum. I will never forget the early days of April 2005 when I came upon the RFC forum quite by accident while searching the web for information on Joseph Ratzinger. I truely love this forum and cherish most of the connections I've made here. Like gracelp I have been sad because of the restrictions and the Italian forum is a great release. *Nan hugs mag6nideum*... let's dry our eyes... don't be sad... we're still here! I for 1 have no intention of leaving!

I'm going to stay here although I might post less. I like the users here so much and don't see a reason to leave.
It's still a wonderful place to come and talk about Papa, even if we have to look at the photos somewhere else now. ____________

I, too, tried to register with the Italian forum some time ago - September, I think. I had problems registering so I gave up. But I have now become a registered member. I don't see why we can't belong, happily, to both forums.
Considering I have a Ratzinger Fan Club.com sticker in the back window of my car, I would think I'm very loyal!!!! Personally, I didn't want any of the recent fuss and I didn't instigate it. I did post once, saying that I felt links to news items were preferable to posting the whole story in the forum. It was getting tedious to read it all. But I wasn't bothered about the photos - although I don't like watermarks, it's the only way that most of us can see some photos. I always enjoyed looking for photos and seeing the ones that different people had posted. We've had a lot of fun. I hope we can go on having fun as well as posting on the more serious threads. A "fan club" suggests that we are "fans" of Papa Benedict and fan is short for "fanatic". This was the first forum I found, when I started searching for sites about Joseph Ratzinger and I'll stay with it. I must admit, though, that I feel I can't be so "naturally myself" now - I do have to weigh up what I write. I've made some firm friends here - and I stick like glue, once we've established friendship. I've started a thread about the Liturgy and I hope people will contribute and give me ideas. I write the Bidding Prayers on a rota basis in my parish and this interests me, as does the whole of the Liturgy. So - I'm not an air-head!!!!! I'm just someone with a sense of humour. Know who else has a great sense of humour? Papa Benedict, of course! Love, peace and much choy to everyone - Mary |

I won't ever leave this forum. I miss the old way though. People were more themselves, we had good fun as well as serious topic. Why cannot we continue as we were ? I miss people posts ... The forum looks sad.... |

I've been away for awhile and just got back. What happened? What fuss? What restrictions?

I hope everyone will feel they have a contribution to make to this forum, because everyone does.
I know many people have been concerned at a perceived seismic shift regarding the kind of posts we are 'allowed' to have. This has caused some to feel that there is a new restriction about the tone and content of posts. Chris has intervened in the past about politeness and the need to avoid flaming, or the appearance of flaming. But he hasn't stepped in otherwise, as far as I recall. Nor has Chris forbidden the posting of photos. He asked that they should not be watermarked, but he hasn't banned pics. Therefore I will post photos if I think them relevant. We don't need to have all the same photos that appear on the Italian forum, but we can certainly (IMO) have some. Also, no one has been told they can't have the occasional 'mad' post to let off steam. Chris didn't intervene in the 'dinner' thread, so why not just ignore anyone who doesn't care for this kind of thing and carry on? People are free to say what they think, and other members are free to post as they choose. The other thing that Chris has asked is that people should not regularly post large numbers of posts which might cause others to feel less inclined to contribute. But of course if you need to post, surely that's OK?? Just my interpretation of things. Oh, and I registered with the Italian forum in September so have had dual citizenship for a while. No harm in that!!! |

ahhhhh holy restraint
Many a saint has carried on in reverie enraptured by one's personal revelations of Jesus or the beatific vision. We need sometimes remind ourselves that prime enthusiasm is reserved for our Mighty God, not for another human. And out of respect for the object of the forum's fanaticism, Papa Bene. (He likely would wholeheartedly agree.) |

I came back to this thread, just to remind myself what had originally been stated. Yes, Groovysmith, of course Jesus Christ is paramount in our lives! If He has a fan club is all those who are Christians. I was searching for sites about the Church [I am a Catholic] and about Jesus Christ long before I discovered the Ratzinger Fan Club. I suppose I've just always assumed the Papacy was there, the Pope was guiding us on earth and that was fine..............it wasn't until Pope John Paul's final illness that I began to follow events in the Vatican seriously. Many of us became emotional at that time, when he was dying and then watching his funeral Mass. It was then that I noticed Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger! My deep interest in the Papacy and the Vatican stems from that moment - can that be bad? No. It's made me realise just how much we need a firm but gentle successor to Saint Peter on earth and how the Catholic Church holds the whole Truth. Would I have gone to Rome for the Easter Triduum a couple of weeks ago, had it not been for our now beloved Benedict XVI? I don't think so.
So, yes the biggest fan club in the world is for Jesus Christ. And, yes, we also love to have a fan club for our dear Holy Father. I am also a member of the Italian forum, which kindly let us have an English section. Why not? This one has sections in other languages and the Italian forum has sections for languages other than English. Why not? I think we should all be able to be members of both, if we want to. And as for photos - well, if they are not here, I'll grab them from whatever site I can. No law says we can't do that. Buona Pasqua a tutti voi! Ein schoenes Osterfest! Mary "Living in fear of God frees the heart from all fear and immerses it in the depths of His love" Benedict XVI
