I have started with this one. Although he is not quite a Cardinal, it is a beautiful picture to begin the album.

And this one of the young Cardinal

Maklara,
I like that photo too! It was one of the FIRST ones I ever saw of him after I had seen him do the homily for JPII. Louise |

Paparatzifan has unearthed this newspaper photograph from 1978 - young Cardinal Ratzi at a session of the German bishops conference. The photo is grainy and all, but what a heart-throb!
![]() I've wondered before - on the Italian forum - how we could possibly get stories (at least some!) from the women of the archdiocese of Munich and Freising who were young (or even old) and impressionable at the time, on what it was like to have a drop-dead gorgeous man as your pastor (or confessor, for that matter). |

And from Ratzigirl - "early" Joseph and Georg:
And a "later" Joseph and Georg, celebrating Mass together! Plus Joseph with Clemmi: |

Teresa: We could probably take out an ad in a Munich paper and have the ladies contact us. Not quite sure how the ad could be worded discreetly. How about... Wanted: Personal stories from women in the diocese who were acquainted with a certain drop-dead gorgeous cardinal who is now pope. Contact Cardinal Ratzinger Fan Club with complete details. Ask for Teresa. |

Hehehe .... Benefan, I had thought of something like that, except which is the right publication to post it in? The Italian girls suggested an Internet site...I think we should consult the girls of the German forum...

Benefan, I'll get the leaflets printed, you take care of the planes! - How's that?
Anyway, here's something Dinabella posted on the German forum which I really like....Paging Dinabella, please tell us where this came from...My first impression is that it's what's usually referred to as a "line drawing", which results when you exaggerate the contrasts in a B/W photo. ![]() |

Your cardinal pics are all gorgeous, gRA(T)ZIe
I love the idea of getting first-hand impressions from a certain drop-dead gorgeous cardinals female parishioners. Internet, newspapers, leaflets dropped from planes, knock-on-doors? More pics dated February 22. 2005, our not-yet-Papa promoting JPIIs Memoria e Identita. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

LutheranGuest - Thanks for the "Memoria e Identita" series! How wonderful to see all of these pictures (many of them previously seen "isolated") together like this - next best thing to a video clip of the occasion! Paparaxvi in the Italian forum and Sylvie have both done the reverse, also - to astounding effect- by lifting frames from a video. Looking forward to other such series from past events!
Similarly, it's been very welcome since Sylvie and beamariepia on the French Forum have started to post Audience/Angelus and other event pictures as montages - one gets a better appreciation of the total picture. And then, of course, we can always pick out to isolate the ones that are extraordinary. (Like the Pope sniffing a bouquet at the last audience!- I have a decided faiblesse for any picture that shows him with flowers, the way others have for him taking a drink of water.) |

I am compulsive! I had logged out prepartory to leaving the house but one last visit to Ratzigirls' forum and she has this "new" photo, apparently from Ratzi's 1981 farewell to his Munich parishioners.
Now, we could advertise (using all the means listed earlier) to "smoke out" these kids and their mothers, to begin with.... |

Very good idea..I'd be honoured to help.
I'm even wiling to spend hours at those ladies' houses, being fed cookies, cake and filled up with coffee..listening to their stories. "Hach...der Kardinal Ratzinger, mei.... war der fesch..." Poor Cardinal Wetter never had a chance in that department... |

Beautiful (though small), never-before-seen picture of Ratzi as Cardinal (in red robes) walking down a Munich street during a procession, with Msgr. Clemens (I think) behind him. See Page 49 of "Foto da Cardinale" in Ratzigirl's forum. The picture from e-bay has a copyright mark across it, so a new rule does not allow us to post it here. (I do hope this matter can be straightened out soon!)
As long as there's e-bay, I think we will continue to have "new" pictures from Ratzi's past surfacing all the time! What a nice thought to keep in mind! |

Quote: Teresa, this picture is from a special edition of "Weltbild". It's a german publishing company. Sorry it's a bad scan. Originally it's much smaller (I don't have any idea how to post it smaller) and it's in colour. It is one of my absolutely favours with Papa as a Cardinal on the famous red couch |
