There was a lot of shouting, screaming and singing today.
Papa's voice sounded young and fresh. He seems to enjoy his stay in Castelgandolfo. |

What television station do you see the Angelus on?
It's not shown on EWTN. I listen on Vatican Radio when I get home from Mass - our Mass is at 11 am British Time, so starts at the exact moment when Papa starts the Angelus But that television site we were given does show the first part of the Angelus by about Tuesday - not a good picture, but it's better than nothing! I think Vatican Television should issue all Papa's Angelus and Audiences on DVDs - I can give a very good idea of who would buy them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Un saluto e un abbraccio a tutti voi! Mary x |

I can watch them both on CTV (Vatican TV) online, but you have to click on about 15 minutes early or their lines get overloaded or something and it will not let you in. I think this problem has increased, because Papa B is increasingly "in demand"! The quality is not as good as TV, but you can see and hear and its great! You can get there by going to the Vatican website and clicking on News, then select CTV.
I watched a delightful DVD this afternoon loaned to me by a friend - its a National Geographic documentary from 2001 called "Inside the Vatican" and there are a few glimpses of Papa B (as Cardinal of course). It is lovely to look at because of all the "inside scenes" footage and interesting facts, history and stories of all aspects of Vatican life and very informative. I can just imagine Papa B walking here or there or in all those rooms they show - fun! My local library carries it too. Papa B did look and sound wonderful today - the accompanying article (to the pix on Yahoo) described him as "radiant" when speaking today at CG angelus. |

So that was the problem this morning. I tried every conceivable way to get in, but the connection could not be made through Windows Media player or RealPlayer. I'll wait a few days and watch it on "Religione".

I'd never had a problem watching either the Sunday Angelus or the Wednesday Audiences on-line through CTV until today. And I don't normally go to the site much earlier than the start time either. And here I was blaming my new Internet provider for not allowing Windows Media Player or Real Player to let me watch Papa after staying up half the night so I could! I did read somewhere that CTV had upped there streaming capabilities recently but apparently not enough.
I wonder who's idea it was to give Papa a new backdrop during the Angelus? I love it!.The green background was boring. I also wonder if it is the same tapestry that hung over the door of St. Peter's Basilica during Papa's Mass of Installation and the funeral for John Paul II. Either that or it's a good replica. |

ANGELUS On Evangelization "Wherever God Is Not in the First Place, Man's Dignity Is Endangered" CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy, AUG. 28, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of the address Benedict XVI gave today before praying the midday Angelus with the crowds gathered in the courtyard in the papal residence of Castel Gandolfo. * * * Dear Brothers and Sisters! It was truly an extraordinary ecclesial experience lived last week in Cologne, on the occasion of World Youth Day, with the participation of a very great number of young people from all parts of the world, accompanied by many bishops, priests and men and women religious. It was a providential event of grace for the whole Church. Speaking with bishops of Germany, shortly before returning to Italy, I said that young people have given their pastors, and in a certain way all believers, a message which is at the same time a request: "Help us to be disciples and witnesses of Christ. As the Magi, we came to find him and to worship him." Young people left Cologne for their cities and nations animated by a great hope, without however losing sight of the not few difficulties, obstacles and problems that in our time accompany the authentic search for Christ and faithful adherence to his Gospel. Not only young people, but also communities and pastors themselves must be ever more aware of a fundamental fact of evangelization: Wherever God is not in the first place, wherever he is not acknowledged and worshipped as the Supreme Good, man's dignity is endangered. It is therefore urgent to lead the man of today to "discover" the true face of God, which has been revealed to us in Jesus Christ. Also humanity of our time, like the Magi, will be able to prostrate itself before him and worship him. Speaking with the German bishops, I recalled that adoration is not "a luxury, but a priority." To seek Christ must be the incessant longing of believers, of youths and adults, of the faithful and their pastors. This search is encouraged, supported and guided. Faith is not simply the adherence to an ensemble of dogmas complete in itself, that would slake the thirst for God present in the human spirit. On the contrary, it projects for man a path in time toward a God ever new in his infinitude. The Christian is therefore at the same time one who seeks and one who finds. It is precisely this that makes the Church young, open to the future, rich in hope for the whole of humanity. Saint Augustine, whom we remember today, has wonderful reflections on the invitation of Psalm 104 "Quaerite faciem eius simper" -- Seek his face continually. He notes that that invitation does not hold good just for this life but also for eternity. The discovery of "God's face" is never exhausted. The more we enter into the splendor of divine love, the more beautiful it is to go forward in the search, so that "amore crescente inquisitio crescat inventi" -- To the degree that love grows, so grows the search for him who is found" (Psalm 104:3; "Corpus Christianorum," Series Latina (CCL) 40, 1537). This is the experience to which we also aspire from the depth of our hearts. May it be obtained for us by the intercession of the great bishop of Hippo; may it be obtained by the maternal help of Mary, star of evangelization, whom we now invoke with the Angelus prayer. [Translation by ZENIT] [Following the Angelus, the Holy Father greeted pilgrims in several languages. In English, he said:] I greet all the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors present at today's Angelus including a group of staff and seminarians from the Pontifical North American College. May your time here at Castel Gandolfo, and in Rome, be filled with joy and deepen your love of the universal Church. Upon you all, I invoke the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. |

Today Papa's voice was "magnifico" and very, very beautiful.
He asked, in memory of New York's 11 of September, for Peace in the World....The crowd was over enthuisiastic.!!! And Papa throughout, laughed so gently and sweetly. We love Our Papa! May Our Papa's radiant-light continuously shine forth to illuminate Christ for the world!

Yes - voice was excellent and Papa looked a bit tanned and relaxed - he has such a nice chuckle/laugh. The crowd was very animated - in a way I'll be sorry when he goes back to the "big window" - as he is so far up from the people. But they will all love him anyway!

Yes, Papa looked wonderful this morning. He really has the finger waggle down pat, doesn't he? Did you all notice the rapt look on just about every face in the crowd each time the camera panned in on them? It was fairly obvious to me that most of those people were in that square because they truly love Papa, not simply as a touristy thing to do.
After the Angelus, CTV broadcast Octavo Dias again. They did the same thing after the general audience last Wednesday so I assumed it would be a replay. But it wasn't. There was a bit of the same footage but a lot of new stuff, especially from Cologne. The best one though was several minutes of what I believe was Papa's meeting with the clergy in Les Combes. He was speaking completely extemporaneously and was so cute. The whole time he spoke, he played with a pen on the table in front of him. Moving it around, picking it up and so forth. It was so natural and unscripted. We don't often have the chance to see him like that. |

Yes, his voice was really excellent today, and when he says "grazie, grazie.....". He seemed to enjoy the crowd - and how they love him.
I even liked the singing today, does anybody know what song it was? |

So that was why I couldn't get CTV this morning! And I too was cursing out Real Player for malfunctioning!!! Pinky, please, what is this "Religione" program, where does it appear, is it anywhere so I can get it through the expanded Time-Warner cable system (the one with 300-plus channels, but everyone useless if they don't carry the Vatican broadcasts!)? Please let me know, as EWTN scheduling is erratic and not very reliable....

Budwud - I wish I had seen that LesCombs talk you mention - I always think its so interesting to see people in their more relaxed state! Especially Papa B - youre right, we don't get to see him like that often!
Does anyone know if any of the WYD Masses or events are on DVD or video yet? Even if some of the music was occasionally not to my taste - I'll love to see the videos of Papa - and if they are well-edited they will b wonderful! Any news about this? |

Sara Virginia: The broadcast of the Octavio Dias program on CTV streaming video is really hit or miss. That's only the 4th time I've seen it and I haven't missed a single one of Papa's General Audiences of Sunday Angeluses. When it does come on, it is usually about 5 minutes afterwards. So you just have to keep your Media Player or Real Player going for awhile . . . and keep your fingers crossed.
All of Papa's televised events in Cologne, plus all his other public Masses can be found on the KTO site. I know watching on a computer isn't as good as a large screen TV, but Hey, we take what we can get. |
