An American fundamentalist predicted the end of the world on 21st May. Now we have all survived the end of the world (or I think we have!), are we now back to what theologians call realised eschatology- that the end things are being played out among us all the time. Pope Benedict in his Jesus of Nazareth Vol II says that apocalyptic is not about predicting the future but is about encounter with Christ. This is a form of what the theologians call Realised eschatology. Perhaps this is what we should be propagating. The numerous attempts at prediction- more common among US Christians than among those in the UK- are actually an opportunity to witness to the presence of Christ in our lives and in the life of the church and the sacraments.
