My aunt/godmother died just over a year ago and her son, who is atheist (or maybe agnostic) gave me various of her religious items - some rosaries, her prayerbook, etc. With the latest bundle came a 10+ foot strip of black lace, about 1foot wide (that's just over 3 metres long and 30 cm wide). I assume this is a mantilla for wearing on the head. My aunt travelled in the Holy Land and stayed in a French monastery from time to time so may have needed something like this occasionally.
The only mantilla I ever saw otherwise was a smallish piece of black lace cloth, which one could just plonk over the head. However, this is HUGE.
How would it be worn? I know it is for religious use as it was given to me with other religious 'gear' (as my cousin put it).
